The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

New York, New York (Seventh Church).

Lecturer: Dr. Hendrik Jan de Lange; introduced by Mrs. Evelyn R. Glanville, who said:—

The giving of a Christian Science lecture is a healing service to mankind. I am grateful to be numbered one among the thousands who have been healed by attending Christian Science lectures. During a lecture in one of our churches in this city the lecturer told of a healing which she had received by declaring the truth as taught in Christian Science. On my way home I realized that the same Christ, Truth, which had healed that lecturer was present in my consciousness and would heal me of an unsightly growth to which I had been in bondage for many months. I insisted that I was mentally and physically obedient to every word of God declared in that lecture. Upon arriving home I experienced a sharp sensation, and in the morning found that the growth had dropped away, thus proving again that Christian Science is the truth, and that "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." The loving work of Christian Science practitioners strengthened and helped me during this experience, and I was never tempted to use material means of any sort. As God sustained the children of Israel in their wilderness experiences, so did He sustain me.

Gloucester, Massachusetts (First Church).

Lecturer: Richard J. Davis; introduced by Carl Oscar Anderson, who said:—

The question, "Does Christian Science heal?" must, of necessity, be answered in the affirmative by every fairminded person who is willing to accept the proofs which are to be found throughout the civilized world among people in all walks of life who have experienced healing in one form or another through Christian Science. Right in our own midst, in our own neighborhood, are to be found men and women who have been healed of all manner of discordant conditions through the study and application of this Science. I myself was instantaneously healed of several discordant conditions at the very beginning of my study of this subject, and for more than twenty years I have relied wholly upon it. Among many blessings, I have enjoyed perfect health.

Pasadena, California (First Church).

Lecturer: Frank Bell; introduced by Ernest Roberts, who said:—

Centuries ago the prophet Isaiah wrote: "Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near." This inspired behest may be followed to-day through an understanding of Christian Science; for Christian Science teaches precisely what God is, how to seek and call upon Him as did Jesus and the early Christians, through prayer, with "signs following." Since the discovery of Christian Science by Mary Baker Eddy, students of this Science throughout the world have utilized it to seek and call upon our heavenly Father for physical healing; for the correction of sinful habits; for the establishment of harmonious homes, and to overcome lack and limitation.

Some years ago, a consecrated Christian Science practitioner helped me to call upon and seek God so effectively that I was instantaneously healed of defective eyesight, and of all desire for intoxicants and tobacco. Since then I have relied exclusively on this truth, and every problem has been met promptly and permanently. In one case a carbuncle, which had attained very large proportions, was completely removed in two days. It did not go through any of the phases usually ascribed to that disease.
