Christian Science Hymns Heal

That the statements of Truth contained in our hymns heal so-called physical disease, as well as the condition more specifically analyzed as mental, is well known to those who rely on Christian Science for their well-being. Christian Scientists see in this result the subjugation of self through the recognition of God as All-power. When one begins to say, "Not my will, but thine, be done," one begins to see the light that liberates.

Many years ago a young man just entering upon the activities of human endeavor became interested in the study of Christian Science. He needed the balance and guidance that Christian Science offers, but his thought was torn by the teachings of false theology and loyalty to certain family traditions, until the necessity to follow the teachings of Truth, as revealed to Mrs. Eddy, forced him to abandon the outgrown traditions. During this period of indecision the fact that Christian Science is a revelation, and that Mrs. Eddy is the revelator of it, was becoming more and more firmly established in his consciousness. Frequent demonstrations of a varied nature were proving the divine Principle of this Science.

One Sunday morning, during a Christian Science service, as the congregation united in singing Mrs. Eddy's immortal hymn "Christ My Refuge" (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 396, 397; Poems, pp. 12, 13), an ineffable peace gradually filled the student's consciousness. His doubts and indecisions and lingering faith in the old teachings passed away, and he knew that he was established forever in the teachings of Christian Science, for "all things" were "become new."
