It is now about sixteen years since I was led to investigate Christian Science. I was then suffering from a complication of diseases diagnosed by physicians as a tubercular condition of the kidneys, enlarged liver, and gall bladder trouble, which had persistently refused to yield after nine years of medical treatment. Two serious operations failed to give relief. After the second the surgeon said he could do nothing more for me, and recommended that my husband take me to Chicago, where I could have better medical care. Soon after we arrived in Chicago the physician told me I could not live more than three months unless I underwent another operation, and that if I survived the operation I might live a year or eighteen months.

Then my brother-in-law presented Christian Science to me, saying it would heal me. I knew nothing whatever about Christian Science. I had been taught as a child that God sent affliction, sickness, disease, and death. Shortly after taking up the study of Christian Science I learned of a God of infinite love, who sends only good to His children. I had studied the Bible all my life, having read it through twice, yet I had not gained the right understanding of God. Through the study and application of Christian Science I was soon restored to health, happiness, and usefulness. Our home was reëstablished (we had lived in a boarding house for a long time), and in a very short while I was able to care for it and do things I had not been able to do for years.

I have experienced many healings in the past sixteen years. One I should like to mention was an instantaneous healing of pneumonia. I had been ill for several days, had completely collapsed, and was unconscious. My husband called a practitioner, absent treatment was given, and in less than an hour I was able to arise. The next day I took up my duties in our local Reading Room, completely free and well. The healing was permanent. I also experienced a healing of sprained ankle, so that in a short time I was able to walk nine blocks with no ill effects. Before taking up the study of Christian Science I had had a similar experience, and under medical treatment could not walk for several days, and was not able to wear my shoe for three weeks.

I am most grateful for the Christian Science Hymnal. Many times I have been lifted above the sense-testimony of pain and discord by the realization of a truth contained in our hymns. I experienced healing and freedom from a severe attack of acute indigestion by the study and application of the truth contained in one, the last verse of which reads:

This healing took place fifteen years ago, and there has been no return of the difficulty. Previous to that time I had suffered frequent attacks for a period of several years.

I was also healed of the necessity of wearing glasses a few months after taking up the study of this wonderful healing truth. I had worn glasses ever since childhood, and specialists had told my mother I should have to wear them all my life; but the truth that God made man free healed me.

Since my healings I have read very little besides the Bible, the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and the authorized Christian Science literature. I have not used medicine in any form and have no desire to use it, whereas before my healing in Christian Science I took four or five kinds of medicine daily for years. "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death," and I have learned that divine law sustains man's spiritual being. The teachings of Christian Science have changed my whole outlook on life and brought me much joy and happiness. It lifted me from semi-invalidism, suffering, and despair, and put a song of praise and gratitude in my heart. My husband became interested in Christian Science through my healing, and has experienced many blessings and healings through the application of the truth.

I cannot fully express my gratitude to Christian Science. All that I am and all that I have, I owe to this wonderful truth. I am indeed grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; for the privilege of class instruction by a loyal teacher; for the blessing of teaching in our Sunday school, and for the wonderful privilege of serving as assistant librarian in our local Reading Room.—(Mrs.) Allene McFadden, Chicago, Illinois.

I wish to corroborate my wife's testimony in regard to her healings in Christian Science, which have been very wonderful to us, and to express my gratitude for the many blessings which we have enjoyed since taking up the study of this beautiful truth. Before my wife's healing we had both been active workers in another church. I had been a church officer for ten or twelve years and a teacher in the Sunday school, as well as a teacher of Bible classes conducted in our neighborhood homes. I had been an earnest student of the Bible for many years, although there were many things in it which I could not explain or understand.

I knew nothing about Christian Science, although it had been presented to my wife; but we thought it just another fad and paid no attention to it. However, as the years passed and I became more busily engaged in church work, I learned more of Christian Science from the wrong sources, and became more and more convinced that it was an invention of the devil; and I was very bitterly opposed to what I thought were its teachings. I very reluctantly consented to my wife's being treated by a Christian Science practitioner; but upon being brought face to face with the fact of the healing, which was so apparent and so rapid, I was compelled to investigate its teachings; and with a firm determination to know exactly what Christian Science teaches I began to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

It is impossible for me to describe the feelings that came over me as I read, and as new and strange ideas began to unfold in my thought. I was being led to accept the truth as found in Science and Health even before I realized it. The great spiritual truths of the Bible, which had heretofore been at least very vague to me, I began to see and understand; and by the time I had finished reading the book I was thoroughly convinced that Christian Science was the same great truth taught and practiced by Jesus. All of the perplexing questions which had heretofore remained unanswered were now made plain by this wonderful teaching, and the Bible, which I had always loved, became more fascinating and satisfying than ever.

About a year after taking up this study I was seized with what physicians would call a very severe case of sciatic rheumatism which lasted three or four days, and finally I could not turn over in bed. A practitioner came to see me, talked with me a few moments, and gave me a silent treatment, at the conclusion of which I was able to leave the room and go about as usual. This was on a Saturday; on Sunday I attended the church services, and the next day returned to work. There has never been any return of the ailment.
