Some remarkable statements were made by an author recently.

He writes: "The strict execution of the doctrines of Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy (the Founder of Christian Science) throughout the world would in a few years extinguish human life on this planet."

The implication is that Christian Science doctrine is destructive of life, whereas the only Life recognized by Christian Science is God, who cannot be destroyed, and is Himself the source of all life. The real man created in God's image and likeness is conscious, because he is an expression or manifestation of Life, and this consciousness must therefore be immortal. It is the human belief in the reality and inevitability of death, not life, which, if strictly adhered to, would depopulate this planet.

The author further states his opinion that a Christian Scientist is a "social parasite," who, under the shelter of public health regulations, is able to practice his doctrines with comparative immunity. The truth is that by his very choice of spiritual healing in preference to material, the Christian Scientist cuts himself off from any supposed protection resulting from faith in material remedies. Healing based on radical reliance on one infinite God, "who healeth all thy diseases," cannot be combined with material systems which exclude God by their very reliance on so-called matter. All human ever changing regulations are founded on the theory or supposition that matter both causes disease and heals it.

It is the absolute conviction of the power and presence of God, who giveth "his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways," which heals so-called incurable disease, and therefore proves the Science of Christianity to be above, and not dependent on, man-made regulations.

While strictly obeying the laws of the land, the Christian Scientist looks forward to the gradual breaking down of restrictions as men gain a better understanding of God and His government through Love, in unchangeable, eternal law. Mrs. Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 144), "When the Science of being is universally understood, every man will be his own physician, and Truth will be the universal panacea."
