I am very grateful for all that Christian Science has done...

I am very grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me during the last ten years. I was considered a delicate child, and as I grew up suffered considerably from neuralgia, rheumatism in both chronic and acute forms, and other ailments. I suffered likewise from fatigue and depression. Since taking up the study of Christian Science I have become a strong and healthy woman, able to participate in and enjoy all the activities of a busy life.

The winter previous to my becoming interested in Christian Science I was ill for six weeks with a very heavy cold, and was filled with a sense of fear that a chronic condition of delicate health might ensue. In consequence, I took great care of myself, and used a medical remedy in the hope of warding off a recurrence of the trouble. Christian Science was then presented to me, and I immediately left off all material remedies and relied on the truth, which has been the only physician I have used since.

During the first two years after I became interested in Christian Science I had the great privilege of living in a household where this wonderful truth was practiced daily. I am most grateful for this experience, and it would be difficult to estimate the help I received in this way. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says (p. 1), "Desire is prayer." I am very grateful for answers to the prayers of right desire; for a practical religion to enable me to help myself and others; for guidance in studying the Bible; and for helpful literature, all of which I have received through the many channels of blessings with which our Leader has so lovingly and wisely provided us.

One experience which helped others, as well as myself, was the healing of fear of going to a dentist, so that I was able to have five teeth extracted without pain. While talking with a practitioner I had expressed much nervousness, not only regarding the extractions, but also lest the dentist should insist on applying some form of anæsthetic against my wish. I was told that matter could not hurt matter, and that as God's child I was protected from interference with my liberty. The healing was so complete that I did not think of asking for treatment when the day of the appointment arrived. Five teeth were extracted without any form of anæsthetic, and I can honestly say that there was no pain at all. I was able to speak at a school staff meeting immediately afterwards, and to attend the Wednesday evening testimony meeting later. This experience proved to me that removal of fear means removal of pain.

For the help given me by practitioners in times of need; for the sustaining power of Christian Science when sorrow seemed overwhelming; for the nobler, purer outlook on life which I am gaining, my gratitude is greater than I can express in words. I sincerely desire to show forth this gratitude in my daily life.—(Miss) Ethel Stevens, Rustington, Sussex, England.
