Christian Science has done so much for me that words...

Christian Science has done so much for me that words cannot express my gratitude. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 261), "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." Many proofs of God's goodness have come to me when obedient, as well as lessons learned when disobedient.

One day I was walking along the sidewalk, looking up at the beautiful sky and trees across the street. I was thinking the truth about God and man, which Christian Science had taught me. Suddenly, without my knowing why, my feet turned a few steps to the left and then straight ahead, as if by a power not my own. Looking around, I saw that a small hole in the sidewalk, where coal is put down in front of a flat building, had been left uncovered; and I would have walked directly into it had not my steps been led away from it.

Once a sick headache was nearly gone after attending a Wednesday noon lecture on Christian Science, and it had entirely gone after the testimony meeting that evening. An attack of grippe, so severe I was scarcely able to get there, was dispelled during another Christian Science lecture. Influenza has been healed, also two badly infected fingers and much enlarged glands, through Christian Science treatment. A sprained ankle, so painful that I could hardly bear to step on it, was so much better after one treatment from a practitioner that I was able to walk nearly two miles directly afterwards without any difficulty; and in a few days all swelling was gone. The truth is a great help to me every day.

The ninety-first psalm destroyed a great sense of fear, years ago, when a big storm blew through the house and tipped over the furniture. After it had only partly abated, I was able to go to sleep under the shingle roof of the little house where I was visiting, feeling that God was present. Since then, though sometimes afraid at first, I always have God to turn to. The hymn, "In heavenly love abiding," and the passage in Proverbs, "Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil," have been very helpful; also these words of Mrs. Eddy on page 280 of Science and Health: "From Love and from the light and harmony which are the abode of Spirit, only reflections of good can come." Nobody is outside the care and protection of infinite Love.
