In the year 1920 I was out riding with my brother, who was not interested in Christian Science. On our way home a machine that was being driven quite rapidly ran into us and turned our car completely over. My brother was thrown to the side of the road, and I was pinned under our machine. Some men working on the road helped my brother up, and it was quite a while later when they discovered I was under the car. When they got me out I was unconscious. They immediately drove to a hospital, but were informed that every room was taken. I surely was grateful for this protection. They then drove me home, and on the way called a physician. All the time I was unconscious, but while the physician was attending me I regained consciousness and would not allow him to go any farther.

I again lost consciousness, but after a Christian Science practitioner had been called, who faithfully worked all night, I once more regained consciousness, and on the third day I asked to be put in a chair. I seemed to be getting worse instead of better, when one day the error was uncovered. My brother came to see me and said that he was keeping in touch with the doctor, who informed him that I would never have any circulation in my limbs, as certain veins were cut. After my brother left, my daughter called up the practitioner, who was one hundred and twenty miles away, and informed her what was going on. She lovingly advised my daughter, if it were possible, to take me to the city; but it did not seem possible for me to go. God's help and power were, however, present; and within two days I was taken to town, and, thank God, within seven weeks I was healed and able to walk.

I am indeed very grateful for this demonstration. As Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 410): "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love." This was proved to me.

About two years later I took a trip, and on our way home we drove on to a road that had just been oiled, whereupon our machine skidded and turned over into a ditch. There were six people in the car, and as I sat on the side that struck the ground, those in the back seat were thrown on top of me. One of the rods of the car broke my collar bone. I was thanking God that it was I, as I knew I could prove God's allness better than the others could, for they were not Christian Science students. We were about three hundred miles from home, and the nearest town was seventeen miles from where the accident happened. I had to be pulled out of the machine; and all the time I was declaring the truth, knowing that there are no accidents under God's law. A very kind lady came to us and asked if she could take me to town. On the way I asked her if she would kindly stop for a few minutes to let me think. She then informed me that she was a Christian Scientist; for which I was very thankful. After reaching the town I asked help from a practitioner, and after treatment I walked six blocks to the place where I was going to stay. On the seventh day after the accident, while I was studying the Lesson-Sermon, I realized that the healing was about to be accomplished. The attorney for the insurance company wished to have an examination made of my injuries at the time of the accident, but I did not allow the examination to be made until I realized that the healing had been completed. I then called the attorney and told him that I would now allow an examination to be made. The physician was sent over the same day. After his examination he told me that the collar bone and two chest bones had been broken, but that they were set. He asked, as a favor, whether I would allow them to have an X-ray picture made, which I allowed them to do. He said I would not be able to use my arm for at least six weeks, and that the arm would never be as strong as before; but I denied this, as I had been using my hand for four days before he saw it. We left for home on the tenth day after the accident, and during the drive of over three hundred miles I felt no pain or inconvenience.

I am indeed thankful to God; to Jesus, the Way-shower; and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the gift of this wonderful understanding of Truth and Love. I am very grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for the privilege of class instruction; and to my loyal teacher.

For the healings mentioned above I am deeply grateful; but words cannot express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for the spiritual understanding of what God is and of what man's relation is to Him.—(Mrs.) Fannie Scherer, San Francisco, California.
