Eleven years ago I had become a physical wreck, entirely unable to care for my home and family of three children, the eldest fourteen years and the youngest four months old. I had given materia medica a fair trial, but was reluctant to take up Christian Science, of which I knew nothing, fearing I would lose the friendship of many kind physicians.

However, at that time a neighbor, who was a Reader in the local Christian Science Society, inquired of my husband how we were getting on. He told her about my discouraging condition, and she told him about Christian Science. My husband was not a church member. Although he had listened to many sermons of various denominations, nothing had ever appealed to him as does the truth taught in Christian Science. With my consent he dismissed the doctor and the nurse and called a Christian Science practitioner, who came on a Wednesday. The following Friday night they brought home my little son, who had been away for nearly four weeks; and I sat up, undressed him, and put him to bed. From that time on I took charge of my family. I had been on a strict diet, but immediately obeyed Mrs. Eddy's command found in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 222): "In seeking a cure for dyspepsia consult matter not at all, and eat what is set before you, 'asking no question for conscience sake.'"

When we called for the practitioner we discarded all material remedies, and have never used any since. The practitioner treated me for two weeks, and I was like a new woman. Headaches which had haunted me from childhood were gone forever, together with many other ills. Since then we have had many proofs of God's protection. Croup, measles, tubercular glands, boils, influenza, gastritis, jaundice, tonsillitis, have been overcome by the power of Truth. Many material laws were also overcome at the birth of a son four years ago. Right here I should like to express my gratitude for the good seed sown in our home by the faithful Christian Science nurse who ministered to us at that time.

I am grateful to God to be able to work in His vineyard. Our gratitude to the loyal practitioner who has never failed us during these years, is unbounded. We feel that we can say with the prophet Isaiah, "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined."
