More than twenty years ago, weary, fearful, and discouraged...

More than twenty years ago, weary, fearful, and discouraged, I turned to Christian Science for the healing of an invalid child, for whom physicians gave me no hope. The child was suffering from hernia and what appeared to be malformation of the digestive tract. She was healed in one treatment. She is to-day a healthy, strong, beautiful young woman, and from the time of her healing has never had a dose of medicine. Her healing was wonderful to me; and I was grateful for it, but I got very little understanding of the truth as taught in Christian Science until a short time after this, when I found myself in a foreign country, surrounded by strangers, and suffering from what physicians called Bright's disease. Then I turned with my whole heart to a consecrated study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. My search for the truth was sweet, and was rewarded at the end of a few months by complete healing.

Through all the years that have intervened between that time and this, Christian Science has been an unfailing help to the members of my family. There are seven children in this family, and children's diseases have been quickly healed, whenever they have presented themselves. At one time we were in quarantine for scarlet fever, which was completely stamped out in three days. Smallpox and all fear of contagion were obliterated in eleven days. Influenza, pneumonia, broken bones, torn ligaments, neuritis, rheumatism, indigestion, burns, and many other physical troubles have been healed.

Christian Science has protected us, supplied our needs, wiped away our tears, given us a home, taught us to love and to give. Sometimes our demonstrations have been instantaneous, and sometimes we have labored long for results, but we have always been protected, sustained, and blessed in our work. At one time, I recall, I worked for two years over the destruction of a growth in my throat, and added to my consecrated study I had the help of a practitioner. The condition was apparently just as bad the day before I was healed as at any time during those two years, but on the day of my healing I felt that I had surely entered heaven. Every trace of the trouble had gone; and the healing has been permanent.

Mrs. Eddy says on page 494 of Science and Health, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need;" and as I look back on this experience I clearly see that I needed a greater knowledge of Truth at that time more than I needed instantaneous healing. I have always been grateful for that experience and for the lesson I learned at the time, for they have helped me to be of service to other people.

I can never begin to express in words my gratitude to God for the revelation given to us through our beloved Leader; nor can I express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for her purity, her love, and her vision in giving us not only a "key" to the Scriptures, but our church organization with its many channels of help and protection.
