It is with a heart overflowing with gratitude to God and to that great and noble woman, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and Leader of the Christian Science movement, that I feel it my duty publicly to acknowledge the manifold blessings which I have received through this teaching.

I always had respect for Christianity and the church, and became a member of a church when a young man. I studied the Bible and Bible commentaries a great deal; but with all my study I never could harmonize the teachings of the Bible with the doctrines of the church, especially the parts pertaining to hell, the devil, and everlasting punishment after death of all who were unfortunate enough to fail to gain divine favor before death. I became what might be called a skeptic,—in fact, almost an infidel,—and for several years was very worldly or wicked.

Finally my health became very poor. At one time I had to give up my job on the road on account of rheumatism, piles, constipation, and other ills. While I was in this condition a friend spoke to me about Christian Science and proposed that I get "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read it. This I did, as I had almost exhausted the faith I had in doctors and medicine. Neither did I have much faith in Christian Science, however; but I was willing to give it a fair trial. So I commenced reading at the chapter on Prayer, and continued through the book. Before I had read more than halfway through, I noticed that a daily laxative was not needed; also, that I was not suffering so much from rheumatism, sciatica, and piles.

This was in the first part of 1920; and by the middle of the summer of that year I was as sound and well as I ever had been in my life. I had been an inveterate smoker, and also thought I could not get along without whisky. I had an order out for a gallon at the time I discovered I was healed. This order I countermanded. I have never had any appetite for whisky or tobacco since; and I have been blessed with perfect health during the past four years, except for an occasional cold, which has been quickly and easily overcome. Christian Science has been a great moral help to me, as well as a physical one. It has made me acquainted with myself, and has shown me the real man instead of the false or mortal. It has given me a more hopeful and brighter outlook on life; for all of which I am most grateful.
