It is because I gain so much help from reading the testimonies in the Journal and the Sentinel that I feel it is right for me to testify to the immense help that Christian Science is to me, and for the rich blessing it has brought into my life.

It was in the autumn of 1915 that Christian Science was introduced to me by a friend, at a time when I was much discouraged because an operation for gallstones which I had just undergone did not seem to have produced the cure I had hoped for, and I was fearful that another operation would be considered necessary. At first I felt I could not accept Christian Science, for it differed so completely from the beliefs I had always held. I had been a member of a Baptist church for almost thirty years, but I had not felt satisfied for some time that I was gaining all I ought to from my religion. By degrees, however, the wonder and beauty of this new-old religion appealed to me, and in the spring of the following year I determined to accept it entirely.

My healing was a very slow one, but I never again resorted to drugs or the hypodermic syringe to relieve the pain. which came in less severe and less frequent attacks as time went on. Another trouble, internal inflammation, for which I had had to use a material remedy every night, slowly faded away. With the help of a practitioner, I was healed in a very few days of a severe attack of influenza, being able to go for a walk on the fourth day and to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting five miles distant within the week, on a wet and boisterous night. I had no period of weakness or convalescence after the attack.

In many other physical troubles, Christian Science has been my help; but that for which I am most grateful is the new concept of God it has given me, the increased love of the Bible, and the joy and peace it has brought into my life, instead of fear and worry. It is also helping me to realize the brotherhood of man. I am very grateful for the great privilege of class instruction; for all the help I have received from practitioners; for our church services and Reading Rooms; for our literature, so full of rich blessings; and to our Leader for passing on to us her understanding of this great truth, which was demonstrated so many years ago by our Master and Way-shower, Jesus the Christ.—(Mrs.) Catherine M. Clissold, Nailsworth, nr. Stroud, Gloucestershire, England.
