When Christian Science came into our home it found me a helpless invalid, in bondage to sciatic neuritis, unable to wait upon myself. I had been growing into this condition for more than a year, having tried everything that we knew of in a material way that was suggested and recommended. When medicine failed to help me we tried osteopathy, then a change of climate, but only to find myself steadily growing worse, until I thought there was no help; and rather than continue to suffer and grow worse and remain in that helpless condition I longed for death. Two of my aunts had passed on after living for many years in a helpless condition, brought on in a similar way, and I believed this to be my fate.

There was a condition of the hip which one physician thought was caused from a severe experience at childbirth, and another thought was caused by a fall. The physician in the South, where I was taken for a change of climate, had a brace made for me to wear to help hold the hip bone in its proper place. He stated that of all similar cases he never had such a marked one. He has told me since my healing that at conventions of medical men he had attended he has often told of my case—as he had a complete record of it.

It was during a very severe attack, when I was unable to move hand or foot and was obliged to take nourishment through a tube, that I decided to try Christian Science. It had been presented before, but I was not interested and had no desire to try it. This was on a Wednesday. On Friday of the same week a Christian Science practitioner was called, who lovingly came to our house, and after a few minutes' conversation gave me a treatment. Words cannot express my joy at being instantly raised from a helpless condition to find myself suddenly well and strong again. Although at that time living a long distance from the street car line, the following day (Saturday) I walked the distance without help, took the car and went to the city, shopped at a number of stores, took the car to our street, and walked home, experiencing no fatigue or ill effects whatever. That was eleven years ago. Since then there has never been a return of even a suggestion of the former condition; and to-day I am a strong, healthy woman, do all my housework, and walk a great deal—sometimes a distance of five miles. Since this healing we have relied entirely upon Christian Science for all our physical needs, never resorting in any way to material methods.

For a couple of weeks after my healing I wore the brace, as I had great fear that if I took it off I should not be able to walk. We continued to study the Lesson-Sermon and read the Christian Science literature, and attend services; and one morning as I dressed I discovered I had been freed from my fear, and had no desire to put the brace on again, so decided to burn it; and I rejoiced to be free from bondage. Two of my neighbors, who witnessed this healing, are now studying Christian Science and receiving the blessings of Truth. Since this beautiful healing we have had many proofs of the healing power of the Christ, Truth; and I rejoice daily in the peace, health, and comfort it has brought into our home. I can say in the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." I am truly grateful for Christian Science.
