The Lectures

Dallas, Texas (First Church).—Willis F. Gross, lecturer; introduced by Brigman C. Odom, who said in part:—

The religious thinking world has grown tired of a vague, theoretical Christianity. It seeks a practical Christianity; it wants a religion that enables it to handle daily problems in a practical way, a religion that shows one how to resist and overcome the suggestions of sin, useless habits, depraved appetites, sickness,—in a word, all error. The yearning of humanity for a better way is met through the teachings of Christian Science.

Scranton, Pa. (First Church).—Rev. Andrew J. Graham, lecturer; introduced by Robert B. Keller, who said in part:—

Browning sang, "God's in His heaven: all's right with the world." Many agree that heaven is where God is, but few are ready to admit that all is right with the world—for what with strikes, lockouts, broken agreements, ignorance, class hatred, and unrest socially, politically, and industrially, and everywhere sin, sickness, and death, it would seem that the world is in the throes of Armageddon, which means the beginning of the end of evil,—error of every kind.

In the effort to meet the issue, religious and philosophic systems are consolidating or breaking up, and those religions which are not based upon the rock, Christ, are finding themselves being relegated to the limbo of lost hopes. The only permanent religion is that religion which is demonstrable, and which meets every human need. Christian Science is such a religion.

Swansea, Wales (First Church).—Miss Mary G. Ewing, lecturer; introduced by T. A. Goskar, who said in part:—

It is over a year since the greatest war in history came to a sudden end, and we are now in the throes of reconstruction. The human mind is in a state of flux, and real peace cannot come until we steady down. One thing is clear, every one is determined that the world shall not settle down to the old pre-war ideas. We want better and saner conditions. This applies to religion as much as to material things, and practically every theory and doctrine which guided human endeavor in per-war days is being recast.

Our Master said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." This sacred knowledge, this "secret place of the most High," is to be found in the Scriptures, but the spiritual import of Scripture, the Word of God, cannot be truly discerned and valued by the human mind. It needs spiritual understanding. Mary Baker Eddy spent years in searching the Scriptures, and her consciousness was quickened to discover the great principles of health and salvation taught therein, and she has given the world her book named "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," to enable us also to unlock the door of this great treasure house of Truth.

Bradford, Pa. (First Church).—John C. Lathrop, lecturer; introduced by Miss Joan Lincoln, who said in part:—

The Bible story of Daniel in the lions' den is well known, and the Christian Scientist finds it particularly helpful. Daniel's great demonstration was not only in saving himself from the lions but in proving the nothingness and powerlessness of the so-called unalterable law of the Medes and Persians. So successful was he that the king sent out a decree to all peoples and nations to worship the God of Daniel. In a later age we find Paul saying to the Romans, "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." This law has been again revealed to mankind through Mary Baker Eddy.

Rocky Ford, Colo. (Society).—John Randall Dunn, lecturer; introduced by S. A. Taylor, who said in part:—

In the Bible we read about wisdom and understanding. In Proverbs it says, "With all thy getting get understanding." Through the understanding Jesus gave to his disciples, they were able to emulate the works of the Master by casting out evil and healing all manner of sickness. Jesus said of every follower of his, "The works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." Through the understanding of Jesus' teaching as given to us by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" there are thousands of living witnesses that Jesus' teaching is as demonstrable to-day as when on earth he taught and demonstrated the power of good over evil.—The Tribune.

Brisbane, Australia (First Church).—Dr. Walton Hubbard, lecturer; introduced by Mrs. S. E. Fergusson, who said in part:—

Our world to-day is undergoing a great struggle. Industrial strife, famine, war, and pestilence are stalking through the land, causing much sorrow and distress. The foremost men and women of the great nations are busy seeking a remedy for these conditions. The remedy, according to Jesus and Christian Science, lies in individual right thinking, righteous judgment, based on omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent Principle or God. This right thinking of necessity leads to right action. Now Christian Science teaches us that it is our ignorance of God, divine Principle, which brings about all wrong action and discord of whatever name or nature, and that to know Him aright restores health, holiness, and harmony or right action to the individual, the community, and the nation.
