It is with a deep feeling of gratitude to Christian Science...
It is with a deep feeling of gratitude to Christian Science that I tell just a few instances of the help I have received during the last five years. I had reached a place in my life where I was disagreeable and ill, only being able to eat certain foods and having fainting spells. I had come to the conclusion that there was no God, for I could not get an explanation of all the misfortunes I saw around me. I had ridiculed Christian Science, but had not read a word of the authorized literature. One afternoon I found on a table "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and picking it up I started to read. I read for a few hours and found that God is Love and that the Bible really does contain the truth. I was completely healed, and have not used medicine since. About a year after this I was healed of smoking in one treatment. I have also been healed of blood poisoning caused by running a rusty nail into my foot. There was a desire in the home that I should see a doctor, but in two days the condition was normal. I used to be always worrying, but Christian Science has altered that, because I know that God has created everything perfect and that all His creation is in its right place.
Whilst training I was healed in one treatment of what seemed to be a severe attack of rheumatism. During ten months of service in France I have had many proofs of the protecting power of divine Love, and have been enabled to endure hardships which would have been impossible before becoming interested in this demonstrable Science. I am very grateful for the peace it has given those at home. I am also grateful for the organization which has enabled me to receive the authorized literature. One can always get right out of the war and find rest by studying it or the Lesson-Sermon. Each day I become more grateful to Mrs. Eddy, because without her pure thought these blessings would not have been possible.
Capt. J. L. Thompson, Harrogate, England.
It is now about five years since I became interested in Christian Science, and words cannot express my gratitude for all the health and happiness my family and I have received from it. Before taking up this study I suffered very much from a delicate throat and was always having coughs and colds, not being able to swallow at times. Whenever I have had a sore throat since knowing of Christian Science, the trouble has been overcome almost at once. I have had only a few attacks, none of which lasted more than a day.
In the last five years my two little girls have had no treatment except Christian Science. With the loving help of a practitioner chicken pox, mumps, whooping cough, and other ailments common to children have been beautifully overcome. I should like to speak about whooping cough. The first night one of my little girls was coughing very much and did not seem able to stop. I had to go out of the house to telephone to the practitioner and at the time fear seemed to take hold of me, but when I spoke to the practitioner her words were so loving and helpful that all fear left me. When I returned home my little girl was sound asleep. The baby, only seven months old, came through splendidly, so free was he from the bondage which generally accompanies whooping cough, such as the belief of exhaustion. The whole thing was healed within a month.
Christian Science is indeed the law of God, the manifestation of "God with us." The physical healings are beautiful, but for the better understanding of God and man and how to claim the blessings promised in the Bible I am most grateful. I am also very grateful for the Sunday school, for its simple teaching, which helps the little ones so much in their school and home life to solve the problems which spring up, and enables them to love where once they would have quarreled.
I cannot express in words my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy; only my life can reflect my thankfulness in loving my neighbor as myself, doing justly, and loving God supremely, which I am trying to do.—(Mrs.) Mildred Thompson.
