Christian Science has done so much for us that I gladly give this testimony, with the hope that it may help some one who is struggling for the truth. I had spent the summer of 1915 in Oregon, and was returning to my home in Nevada with my daughter, a baby of eleven months, when she became ill. On reaching San Francisco we went to a rooming house, and I applied what few restoratives I knew how to administer, but to no good effect. The second day I called a doctor, and the third day telegraphed to my husband, who was in Nevada, to come to us.

We had three doctors in all, two of whom were specialists on babies' diseases. At first they gave us great hope of her recovery, but after about twelve days they told us they could do no more; that the child had tubercular spinal meningitis and could not live more than a day or two. They also said they had no record of a case of this type ever having been healed; that if the patients lived they were blind, deaf, or had some deformity.

We knew nothing of Christian Science, but several days before this a friend had called and left a copy of Science and Health, asking us to read certain parts of it. Very little of it was read, and that little was meaningless to us at the time; but when the doctors said they could do no more, we obtained the name and address of a practitioner from this friend, as we were ready to try anything that held out a hope of saving the baby. That evening we called on the practitioner, and she said she would come to our rooms the following day, after we had dismissed the doctor; so the next morning we told the doctor that since he could do no more for the child we had decided to try Christian Science.

When the practitioner came the baby was indeed very low. It seemed as if she were only living from hour to hour. The practitioner asked to be left alone with her for a short time, and when we returned to the room the baby had been asleep, but awoke as we came in. When water was put into her mouth she swallowed it, and soon was taking milk from a bottle, for the first time in three days. Then followed hours of restful sleep for her, and such a sense of peace came to us,—the "peace of God, which passeth all understanding."

Sometimes it seemed to us that the healing was slow, but every day there was some change for the better, and in a month we were able to go home with a baby who was well in every way, and who did not look as if she had ever been sick. Within four months after the healing took place she had learned to walk, had cut four teeth, and was saying a great many words. She is normal in every way and not a trace of the disease is left.

Since this experience I have laid off glasses that had been worn for eight years. For these blessings, and for many others, I am truly thankful to God, as well as grateful to Mrs. Eddy for showing us the way.
