Christian Scientists are asked to answer a series of questions...
Johnstown (Pa.) Democrat
Christian Scientists are asked to answer a series of questions propounded by a minister of another church, who states: "These are the questions that I should want answered clearly if I were considering becoming a Christian Scientist." It should be stated in advance that Christian Science is a revelation of spiritual truth, while the questions asked pertain entirely to personal matters and problems of materialists. By the study of spiritual truth most of the matters concerning which answers are desired will, probably contrary to the expectation of the questioner, be explained away as no part of God's creation.
Material concepts and spiritual realities are essentially opposites, and the necessity of explaining away the former will appear more fully in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the other writings by Mrs. Eddy, which may be read or obtained in any Christian Science reading-room and in most public libraries. Those who desire an understanding of Christian Science and a knowledge of Mrs. Eddy's personal history are respectfully referred to her books, and to "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur.
One of the questions asked is a rather surprising one, if not a new one, coming from a minister of the gospel, viz., whether equality with Christ is claimed by Mrs. Eddy, or for her by her followers. This question could only arise through a misunderstanding of her teaching, or through being fathered by the hope that some grounds may be laid for maligning her and her followers. There never was any foundation for such a statement. Mrs. Eddy was honored as few women have been honored in this age, and by people who would have turned from her if such a statement had any basis of fact.
