The past two years have brought marvelous blessings into...
The past two years have brought marvelous blessings into my life and into the lives of my dear ones. For a period of thirty-two years I had been a great sufferer, having been afflicted with many ailments, some of which were of the most alarming character. I was under the constant care of eminent physicians and surgeons; had undergone several serious operations; had been put through many so-called "cures;" was subjected to the most rigid dieting and health laws; in fact I was deprived of practically all the pleasures of life, aside from the fond ministrations of a devoted husband and children and a host of sympathetic friends. My doctors repeatedly told me that some of my ailments were incurable, and that I must try to bear them and be grateful for the blessings already received. As a consequence I felt my faith in medical treatment gradually waning.
One night in July, 1913, while tossing on a bed of suffering and in utter despair, the thought came to me to try Christian Science. I thereupon fell into a sound, refreshing sleep, such as I had not experienced in years. Upon awakening the next morning I eagerly related my experience to my dear ones, and although we knew little or nothing about Christian Science, it was decided that a practitioner should be called in. During the first treatment a calmness came over me such as I had never before experienced, a consciousness that the ills were fading away; and such actually proved to be the fact.
One of my healings was practically instantaneous. I had suffered from chronic bowel trouble since childhood, never retiring without taking medicine for it. When told by the practitioner that I might destroy the drugs and many remedies and eat and drink whatever I chose, I was amazed. However, relying on the truth, I followed his advice, with the result that this disorder and all its attendant ills, such as sleeplessness, liver trouble, severe headaches, nausea, and so on, faded into nothingness. Other ailments, including chronic catarrh, rheumatic gout, weak heart, exhaustion of the nerves, and sinking spells, disappeared one after another, without any material means whatever, until today I can safely say that I am in the full enjoyment of health and happiness such as I never expected to have, and such as I have not had since childhood.
For all these blessings I am most grateful. Along with these healings has come into my consciousness a realization of the allness of God as Spirit, and the nothingness of matter. Through the daily study of our helpful Lesson-Sermons and attendance at the weekly services, I am gaining a fund of knowledge which adds constantly to my happiness and to my fitness to be of service to my fellow men and women. All my dear ones are equally impressed with this saving truth. They too are ardent students, and are receiving their rewards both physically and spiritually. As a consequence, all is harmony in our family. For all these blessings my thankfulness goes out to God, and my deep gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Jennie L. Nelke, Philadelphia, Pa.
I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings that have come into the lives of my entire family (embracing three generations) since we first became interested in Christian Science a little more than two years ago.
The healings experienced by my wife, which in my estimation were simply wonderful, bear every evidence of permanency. They furthermore served as forerunners of many other happy experiences realized through our efforts to put Mrs. Eddy's teachings into practice. Scarcely a day passes without some new evidence of physical, mental, or financial benefits, which I believe can be attributed to right thinking as taught in Christian Science. This is particularly noteworthy when we stop to realize the unparalleled world-wide discord now existing.—Harry Nelke.
