My heart is full of gratitude for what Christian Science...
My heart is full of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. For about two years I was under medical treatment for bronchial asthma, at one time taking several different kinds of medicine each day. Then for six months I was unable to do any work, and during this time my wife passed on after a long illness and I was left with a little girl. I began to work again, though continuing to have attacks of this trouble as before.
For a long time friends had told me about Christian Science, but like many others I refused to accept it. Finally, when I first attended a Christian Science service I was living in the country sixteen miles away. At that service I ordered a copy of Science and Health, and received it in two days. Then I began to read it, and immediately saw that I had found something for which I had been looking thirty years in an orthodox church. Accordingly I moved nearer to the church and attended the services regularly, then looked up a practitioner and began to take treatment. For a long time I had been unable to sleep at night unless there were two or three pillows under my head, but the practitioner told me I need not use them, and now for over four years I have been using only one. I was completely healed in two weeks' treatment, only having one slight attack afterward, and have been able to follow up my work regularly as well as to work many extra hours.
Two years ago I married again, and it was through my wife that I first knew of Christian Science. We are trying to live daily as true Christian Scientists and to show others the way. I am thankful to God for health, strength, and happiness, and grateful to Mrs. Eddy for giving us "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which teaches us to know the right way. Indeed, all I have I owe to Christian Science.—James Leach, New Bedford, Mass.
