HEALTH

On page 120 of our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, we find this definition: "Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the subject of health." What a revelation is contained in this simple but profound statement! Mind being God, we must then admit that health is not a man-made or man-sustained state of existence, but a divine fact, unchangeable, perfect, and eternal. The phrases "your health," "my health," and "his health" thus become obsolete because untrue, and mankind awakens to the one God-made, ever-abiding, spiritual health in which all creation forever exists.

This understanding comes with sweet assurance of peace and confidence to him who is struggling with the contrary testimony of the false physical senses on this subject. They would have him believe that health is a personal possession, dependent upon physical organs and functions; an exceedingly variable condition of matter over which man has an extremely limited control. They would have him believe in healths many, good, medium, and bad; in an improving or a declining health. They suggest a loss of health today or its recovery tomorrow by the use of drug, operation, exercise, and diet, when there is but one perfect health, like the divine giver, "the same yesterday, and today, and forever."

When one accepts the true view of health, he is relieved from fear, worry, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future. He moves through business, pleasure, labor, and rest with an abiding consciousness of unchanging good, knowing that neither lungs, heart, liver, nerves, stomach, food, weather, nor mortal mind control his health, and hence they cannot limit or destroy it. Health is a concomitant of Spirit, Mind, God, never in or of matter, nor at its mercy. Let us then cease to consider our bodies in connection with health, for such consideration is lost time. Let us rather earnestly seek for that Mind which was in Christ Jesus, and as we find it we will also attain its ever-attendant condition, perfect health and harmony.

To the Christ-mind health was and is an ever-present, divine reality, in which man forever exists, of which we all are to partake, and before which all false evidence disappears as surely and resistlessly as darkness disappears at the coming of light. It is high time that the false human beliefs and anticipations respecting disease and decrepitude should give place to the scientific knowledge of God's "saving health among all nations." Man does not possess a health of his own; he forever reflects the one perfect, spiritual health, divinely ordained and sustained.
