I desire to testify to what Christian Science has done for...

I desire to testify to what Christian Science has done for me and mine. I was from childhood subject to attacks of illness of a rheumatic and neuralgic nature, as the doctors pronounced it, and as I grew older and had the care of my own home I became worse, the attacks being more frequent and more severe. I tried every known remedy, and had no less than a dozen different physicians, but continued to get worse, until I was confined to my room and most of the time to my bed. My suffering was intense at times, although I had the best of care and the attending physician did all that could be done for me. I was taken ill in September, and in February the physician told me he could do nothing more.

At this time a dear friend sent me some reading matter, and among the papers were some Sentinels. I had heard of Christian Science only once before, and then in a sneering manner, but I looked at these Sentinels and read some of them, though I soon laid them down and remarked that I thought Scientists worshiped Mrs. Eddy instead of God. I had been raised very strictly, as my father was a minister in an orthodox church, and he had taught us to reverence God above all others. I could not, however, let the Sentinels alone, for something drew me to them, and I began to be interested in them; then as I read and reread them I had a strong desire for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I began to feel that there was the light for which I had so long yearned, as I had never been satisfied. I could not understand the Scriptures, although I had always loved the Bible and had tried to live a Christian life.

A dear friend got a copy of Science and Health, and I had read only part of the chapter on Prayer when I found that Christian Science was the long wished-for truth, and I could not read fast enough, it was so sweet to me. I felt as if I could not lay the book down. The practical result was, that I have had no need for medicine since, and I am able to help myself and others. In four weeks I was able to do my own work, and have had many demonstrations since my own healing.

I would like to tell of one of these demonstrations, which was in the case of my married daughter, living in Utica, Ohio. She had been ailing since April, 1911, had had different physicians, and had sent to a distant city for a specialist, but all agreed that her trouble was due to abnormal growths. She suffered intensely at times, and for three months they tried to get her to go to the hospital to be operated on; but she refused to go. About this time she thought she would try Christian Science, and as there was no practitioner in her home town, she wrote to one in another city and asked help from her. The Scientist replied kindly, encouraged her to trust in God, and said all would be well. My daughter had for ten days been troubled with severe hemorrhages, and on the 6th of December she had another attack, which her husband thought would end her life, as the doctor had said it would; but now she said she was not afraid, for she knew from whence her help was coming. Her husband telephoned for their attending physician, but found he was out of the city, so he called another one in, and in less than half an hour she gave birth to a child without a single pain. The physician asked her if she felt weak, and she replied, "No, not at all." The physician was astonished, as all the doctors had agreed that this was not her trouble. The physician said such a case might not occur once in a thousand years. She knew that her help was in God, and she asked me, when I started for home, to tell all the folks there that Christian Science had saved her life.

Is it any wonder that we are thankful to God for the Christ-healing, and to our dear Leader for giving us an understanding of the truth that will meet our every need? I could tell much more of what I have seen of Truth's healing power, but enough, God be praised!

Mrs. Mary E. Norman, Muncie, Ind.
