Three years ago I was led into Christian Science
Three years ago I was led into Christian Science. As I was on the train, going to Longmont, I gave a gentleman a book to read, and in handing it back he made this remark : "I think Christian Science is the coming religion." I then asked him to tell me about Mrs. Eddy, as I had not read anything about her for a long time, and he told me so much that was good that I made up my mind to investigate Christian Science thoroughly.
In course of time a practitioner came to see me, and I began to tell her all about myself. First, I referred her to a large medical book from which I had taken prescriptions, and she said that instead of studying medicine I should study the Bible. I said that I studied the Bible, and my prayer-book too, but I thought it was dreadful to be forbidden to study doctors' books. I nevertheless went on to relate my tale of woe. The altitude was too high; I could not sleep half the night; I had stomach trouble, nervousness, and also believed that I could not walk a block. The practitioner treated me, and later, as I listened to her explanation that God is Love, and God is good, a sweet peace filled my thought, but I could not understand why she had not prayed aloud. I slept like an infant, however, and next morning awoke refreshed for my daily duties.
We came home in a few days, so I was sorry I had learned so little about Christian Science. Still, I felt so much better that I knew it was the religion I had been seeking for years, and though the kindness of several Scientists, who sent me the Journal and Sentinel, I gained much good. I soon bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and began to study it, but there were many things I could not understand until I got the Lesson-Sermon. Since writing the above I have had the great privilege of again visiting Longmont and attending three Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings.
Words fail to express my gratitude for daily benefits, both temporal and spiritual, showered upon me and all mankind by our Father-Mother God, through His beloved Son, Christ Jesus, "who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." I am also thankful that dear Mrs. Eddy was inspired and sustained by divine Love so wonderfully to lead us into an understanding of Truth. My prayer is that we may so live day by day and hour by hour that we may be worthy with her and all the redeemed to enter into the heaven which, like God, is ever present.
