[Written for the Sentinel.]

THE LARK

He sang of life and liberty
And joy he could not speak,
He sang down in the valley
And he sang up on the peak.
He sang among the sunbeams
And he sang amid the snow,—
He sang because his heart was full
Of only good, you know.

He sang while soaring upward
Of the thoughts he could not speak—
Of the glory of the sunbeams
And the light upon the peak;
Of the peace found in the valley,
And the radiance of the snow,
Telling of Love, and Life, and Truth,
—Of only God, you know.
