Hoping that some one who is similarly afflicted may take...
Hoping that some one who is similarly afflicted may take courage and seek the remedy which has proved so efficacious in my case, I send this testimony of healing in Christian Science of a malignant growth in the mouth, this demonstration having been made during the latter part of July, 1910.
I was taken with what seemed to be toothache and the swelling of one of the glands under my tongue. I did not pay much attention to it at the time, but as it continued to grow worse, I consulted a physician. He treated me for several days and then frankly admitted that he did not know what was the matter and sent me to a specialist, who gave the disease some big name. I used the remedies he prescribed for a few days, but the condition was growing worse rapidly, so that I could scarcely eat or talk. I was now so thoroughly alarmed that I called in another physician, and after a few days' treatment there seemed to be a slight improvement, which was quickly followed by a worse condition than before. I then concluded to see a dentist and have the tooth extracted, but the dentist was afraid to do so and called in yet another physician to examine my mouth. He said he did not know what the trouble was, that I had probably burned it and that any simple wash ought to heal it. The dentist loosened the gum around the tooth and put some medicine around the root, but by the next day the condition was alarming. This was on Friday.
About two o'clock the same day I took my first treatment in Christian Science, a practitioner having been called for another member of the family. I had taken a powerful drug the evening before and had just poured out a large dose of some other medicine, when my mother came in the room and wanted me to go in and have a talk with the practitioner. I consented, and after a short talk with him decided to take treatment, and accordingly one was given. I did not take the medicine, but threw it out, and half an hour later, when a man came along the street selling "frozen dainties," I bought some, which I ate without any trouble and with a relish. By Sunday the ulcers at the back of my mouth had all gone, but the swelling under the tongue had increased and there was one large spot on this enlargement which protruded and was very hard. About one o'clock that night this protuberance (afterward pronounced a malignant growth) dropped out. I took my knife and tried to cut it, but it was like trying to cut a piece of wood. By Monday morning the swelling was all gone and my mouth was perfectly healed. A slight return of symptoms a few weeks later was soon met and overcome and I have had no further trouble.
I am deeply grateful to God, also to Mrs. Eddy, for this healing. I am not a Christian Scientist, but I know what healed me, and I am willing to give God all the glory due unto His holy name.—Harry E. Turley, St. Joseph, Mo.
I know this testimony of my son to be true in every detail, and this healing is only one of many blessings that have come to us as a family through Christian Science. About four years ago my younger son was healed in Christian Science of a severe attack of throat trouble in four days; while former attacks under materia medica had lasted from one to two weeks. He had always been subject to these attacks when he took cold, but since the above-mentioned healing he has been perfectly free from them.
While my own healing was so slow as to be discouraging at times, it has been continuous, and as I look back to the conditions, both mental and physical, in which Christian Science found me, my heart goes out in loving gratitude to God, the giver of all perfect gifts, for this truth which makes free, not only from sickness but from everything that is unlike good. My diseases were many and complicated, and some of them had been pronounced incurable. My condition was indeed hopeless until Christian Science came to my rescue, and only those who have been lifted as I have been, out of the deep darkness of utter despair, can conceive of the gratitude which fills my entire being as I write these words. While I am not entirely free from physical ills, I am so much better that I press on with assurance, for I know that what God has commenced He is able also to finish.
I am grateful to God for this physical healing, but vastly more so for the spiritual regeneration; and grateful to Mrs. Eddy for bringing me to this God who is infinitely good and not the personal tyrant I had formerly tried to serve. I am thankful to have been so patiently and lovingly helped to find the straight and narrow road that leads to eternal harmony—heaven.—Mrs. S. A. Turley, St. Joseph, Mo.
