With a heart overflowing with gratitude, I wish to express...

With a heart overflowing with gratitude, I wish to express through the Sentinel appreciation for the many blessings which Christian Science has brought me. I first heard of it about three years ago, at a time when the most prominent physicians in the city of Cincinnati (my home town) pronounced my case a severe organic malady, and advised an operation as my only means of recovery. Although I was a great sufferer at this time, and in a very run down and nervous state, both physically and mentally, I was at first reluctant to try what I believed Christian Science to be.

My friend, who had spoken to me of Christian Science though not a Scientist herself, had heard what it had done for others, and knowing how intensely I suffered, she urged me to take treatment from a practitioner. This I finally consented to do, and much to my joy I was healed of the so-called organic disease in three weeks. The nervous disorder, however, was not so ready to yield to the power of Truth, but it has now entirely disappeared into its native nothingness.

In August, 1909, I was threatened with severe pains and inflammation of the right side, evidently symptoms of the same disease for which I had been treated the previous summer. I consulted a Christian Science practitioner in Memphis, and the trouble was entirely overcome in from three to four weeks. For two years I have had entire freedom from this disease, and for this physical healing I am more grateful than I can express; but for the spiritual apprehension of the Scriptures which I have gained, I am even more grateful each day. I am now enabled to read the Bible understandingly, which was something I had never before been able to do.

I hardly believe that any one could have come into Christian Science under greater difficulties than those which seemingly confronted me. Reared in a strictly orthodox Jewish family of six children, the opponents to my acceptance of the truth were many, and naturally much antagonism and criticism was the outcome of what they believed Christian Science to be; but I have bravely borne the cross, and have the crown of rejoicing. While my healing has never been acknowledged by my family, I know it has been through God alone. I also feel that the good seed has been sown in my home, and will bring forth its fruits in due season.

For all that Christian Science has done and is doing for me and mine, both physically and morally, I am more grateful each day to God, to Christ Jesus our Wayshower, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I hope so to live as to let my life attest my gratitude and sincerity.
