About a year ago my little daughter seemed to be suffering...

About a year ago my little daughter seemed to be suffering greatly from a stomach disorder and had not eaten for several days. A Christian Science practitioner was called in, and after the first treatment the pain was greatly relieved, and entirely removed by the second. The same help brought her safely and quickly through what threatened to be a severe attack of measles. At another time, while visiting away from our home town, the same little one became ill with a high fever and severe throat trouble. I wired for treatment, and within two hours all suffering was removed and the child was happily eating a hearty meal.

When I look back over the years that have passes since I became a Christian Scientist, I seem to be like a traveler, standing on the top of a mountain, from which he views the long road over which he has just passed. I feel the deepest reverence and gratitude for those through whose struggles this road has been opened up and rendered passable to all mankind, and my gratitude to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, is unspeakable.

I should like to relate one of the many experiences in which Christian Science has blessed my life. In November, 1908, one of our children, a lad of eleven, who is a strenuous football player, came into the room where I was, saying that he had just finished a game of football in the course of which he had been struck on the head by the heavy boot of another player. I gave him treatment, and as he fell asleep I left the house for about an hour. He told me, on my return, that he had been very sick, and the vomiting continued through the night and the next day, accompanied with severe pains in the head. After trying to help him for one day without perceptible benefit, I asked a Christian Science practitioner to take his case. She did so, and the vomiting was then overcome, but the pain in the head was still intense, although from the first there had not been any external indication of an injury.

The fourth day after the injury, I went out of his room for a short time, and as I reentered the door he got up on his kness in the bed, saying that the pain was terrible. He then closed his eyes and fell over on his side senseless. I thought that it was the "last enemy," and instantly I cried out, declaring the allness of Life over and over again. I next rushed to the telephone, to call up the practitioner. I told her what I thought, and immediately she and another practitioner with whom she was staying temporarily, commenced to work in Christian Science. I went back to the room, emphatically declaring for Life, and calling the boy by name I told him to declare the truth for himself. After a while, in a faint far-off voice he repeated those words of truth, then his eyes opened and the color returned to his face. The Scientist came to our aid, and by her ministrations he improved greatly. Afterward we noticed that the spine was affected, also the eyes, one being larger than the other, and the eyesight so impaired that he saw double at times and very imperfectly. In three weeks' time, however, he was completely healed; so thoroughly was the work done that now, to him, the whole experience has hardly the consistency of the dream which it was.

When I look at this boy, now a picture of perfect health and strength, I often ask myself if any mother can have deeper cause to be grateful to Christian Science than I. Can I not call myself blessed, that I am able to give this great truth to my children?
