Christian Science came to me about eight years ago

Christian Science came to me about eight years ago. I had never been strong, and was under a physician's care at the time for a spinal trouble. In addition to this, a few months before, a surgeon who had assisted at an operation I had a few years previous, told me that one of the wounds had not healed perfectly, and while it might give me no trouble, it might at any time necessitate another operation. My stomach was troubling me, and I was afraid to eat many kinds of food, and altogether life seemed a heavy burden. A friend then told me of Christian Science and asked me to take it in the spirit of a little child, which I tried to do. I was soon better than I had ever been in my life, and with the healing came the earnest desire to help others. With little understanding, but with boundless faith in God's power, I was enabled to heal a serious stomach trouble for a friend. I had belonged to an orthodox church from childhood, and had gotten a great deal from its teachings, but this was the most wonderful truth I had ever known. I felt that I must know more of the Principle. As soon as I attempted to study earnestly, a warfare with scholastic theology began, which lasted two or three years. I even tried to forget Christian Science, but I had felt the healing power of Truth and I could not get away from it. Over and over the thought came to me during those years, If God has offered you a higher and truer understanding of Himself, and you reject it, how are you going to answer for it?

At last, after months of illness and bereavement, I turned towards the light, determined to know the truth at any cost. Then the light came, and I knew I had found a satisfying truth. My daily and almost hourly prayer during that time was that I might accept nothing less.

When I returned to the Science I was suffering from nervous prostration, intestinal troubles, and another trouble that could not be met in materia medica. I went to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment and began to improve immediately.
