I desire to express my thanks for the many blessings I...
I desire to express my thanks for the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. I owe all to this wondrous truth which has been revealed to us through our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Four years ago, my husband, baby, and I moved to a new location, and were stopping at a hotel, where the proprietor proved to be a Christian Scientist. I was then in a critical condition with a so-called incurable disease,—a diseased condition of the blood and bones. I was hardly able to be around at all, and this dear Scientist saw my need immediately and gave me some literature to read. I had not known of this truth before, and it seemed lovely when she would tell me of the wonderful things it was doing, but from day to day I neglected looking any farther into it. This kind lady almost always helped me to my room after meals, and she never left me without speaking a word for Truth in some way. One day, after having helped me up some steps, as she started back, she said, "Now look into Christian Science, don't put it off too long."
Soon after we were settled in our own home, but I was unable to do anything, and our baby girl, ten months old, not very much better than I was. I had tried almost everything that materia medica could offer, but no help came. One day it certainly seemed that the end had come. My husband wanted to go for a doctor, but I asked for the Scientist at the hotel. She came, gave me all the help she could, and said she would call a practitioner for me. The practitioner came, talked with me a while, read from Science and Health, and gave me treatment. I immediately got up, had my supper, and a sense of pain left me. This was such a proof to me of some unseen power, that I told the practitioner to call the next morning and I would order the Sentinel and a copy of Science and Health. I began the study, and from the very first I knew it was the truth and what I wanted. I never for one moment doubted a word of it.
Science and Health is my hourly companion, and my growth in understanding has been growth in strength. Now I can truthfuy say that we are a healthy and happy family, my husband, baby and I. While the physical healing has been cause for rejoicing, it is of little moment compared with the moral and spiritual uplifting. I have been lovingly and patiently shown the way, and I am truly thankful to our Father-Mother God, the giver of all good.
MRS. NINA WITTMAN, Biggsville, Ill.
It has been about six months since I first became interested in Christian Science, and I feel most grateful for the benefits I have received through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and other Christian Science literature. Christian Science was first brought to my notice by a dear sister, who had been healed through its practical ministry. For several years she had earnestly endeavored to interest me in Christian Science, but like many others who are living in utter darkness regarding its helpful teachings, I would reject and even ridicule what to her seemed the greatest blessing. Last fall, while visiting at my home, she renewed her patient labor of love, and a new light began to break in upon me. I have subscribed for the Sentinel and Journal, I have read Science and Health through once, and I daily read the Lesson-Sermon before going to my business. I realize that the dawn of Truth is appearing to me in all its beauty. I had used tobacco for thirty-five years, and for the last ten years had been an inveterate smoker, using from five to ten cigars daily. Through the reading of Science and Health this habit has been entirely overcome, as well as the use of profane language and unbecoming expressions. I also find that hatred, revenge, and selfishness, which have been among my characteristics, are disappearing from consciousness.
For the manifold blessings which have come to me in this brief time, I return sincere thanks to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, through whose pure life, spiritual thought, and exemplary living the Christ-teaching has been re-discovered.
