A Clearer Light

We cannot but feel what a difference the study of Christian Science has made in the appreciation of the Bible. Formerly, it seemed an extraordinary collection of more or less beautiful stories, told in dignified and beautiful language, but it seemed to be of no practical value for the present time. Now we regard it in quite a different light. Christian Science shows it to be a very mine of wealth to mankind, as regards health and morals.

The teachings of the greatest helper humanity has ever had, have been made clear to this age by the Discoverer and Leader of Christian Science, whose revelation of truth in Science and Health has made it possible to understand the two commandments, to love God and to love one's neighbor, and to turn our understanding of all evil, sin, disease, and even death itself, till man shall emerge from the hypnotic dream of material existence, and eventually find himself in the image and likeness of God.

It seems as if the way in which Christian Science helps us may be summed up in a paragraph of the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer: "Infinite Love is reflected in love" (Science and Health, p. 17); or in other words, as we do good, we shall receive the help of good.

The beautiful words of the prophency of Isaiah, 9:6, which heralded the advent of the Messiah, seem applicable to the appearing of the Christ-idea in Christian Science. Without doubt it is wonderful, and it is counsellor, all the time. It reveals to us the mighty God,—good. It makes us understand the nature of the everlasting Father,—Spirit,—and it brings within measurable distance the reign of the Prince of Peace,—the reign of divine Love.
