"So shall the spiritual idea guide all right desires in their passage from sense to Soul" (Science and Health, p. 566).
This right desire, this turning from matter to Spirit, discovers the reflection of God,—the spiritual identity, the real man. This desire, if kept pure and honest, will heal the sick and cast out evil. This longing after good comes before we really understand what good is.
From my childhood, there was always an indescribable longing, an unsatisfied desire for something which I was unable to define to myself. As I grew older, the unrest grew more and more pronounced. Material things became more and more odious, less and less satisfying, the desire for rest and peace more imperative, until one day I was told of Christian Science. With my husband I attended a Wednesday evening experience meeting. I shall never forget that first gleam of light which showed me that there was satisfaction, rest, peace, and something above the material.
It never occurred to either of us to doubt one word voiced there that night. Our only thought was to know and understand this wonderful thing that made all that came within its influence well, happy, and good. We lived in anticipation from that evening until Sunday morning, when we again attended service. We both knew after this service what made the people well and happy, for we had found the same power,—God.
We returned home and emptied out all medicines, as we knew we would never use them again,—we had found God. We began to read the Bible and Science and Health, and during the following weeks we were made whole. The tobacco habit was destroyed in my husband; glasses worn for ten years were laid aside: chronic constipation and sick headaches were gone, and love for God and man was brought to light.
The old dissatisfaction was gone; the old longing satisfied, and the right desire guided by the spiritual idea was launched forth in its "passage from sense to Soul" (Science and Health, p. 566).—I. H. S., New York, N. Y.
