Church Needs and Supply

To my sense the benefit to be derived from the article in the December Journal on parliamentary rules and usage will be far-reaching and prove a blessing to many a worker in the field.

To form church, or society, on a scientific basis, so as to stimulate a spiritual growth from the start, requires "help from above." The law of God, Good, must be understood. All personal thought as to what constitutes good government must be subservient to the universal law of love, equality, and harmony.

Personal ambition for place or power is a condition of mortal thought that must be guarded against. God's will must be supreme in our affections. It requires the constant watchfulness of the student who has the work in charge to protect the tender plant in its early growth from the thorns and briers by the wayside.

Students should have the love and confidence of those associated with them. The Manual of the Mother Church should be their ideal.

One of the greatest drawbacks is the unreal law of limitation, especially in finances. As Christian Scientists we must and do know that God, Good, is the only source of supply; that the one Mind governs, not partly but wholly; that there is no limitation except our own sense of it. If we are not bringing out these fruits to prove that we do understand and can demonstrate we are Scientists in name only. There is more and more expected of us and we must let our light shine, and that brightly. If we do this we shall have plenty.

The source of all our strength is indicated in I Chronicles, 29:9–20. The fourteenth and sixteenth verses are very significant. These verses show conclusively that what we call ours, in a material sense, is a false possession, and in giving of this material we simply relinquish our claim of that possession, and in proportion as we do this, and rely upon God as the only source of supply, we rise spiritually.

David had a clear sense of what constitutes the true possession. Also Acts, 4:32–35, elucidates a clear meaning and mutual understanding among the Apostles. Jesus gave us the key when he said, "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness," thus showing definitely that His righteousness is sufficient, as he further adds, "And all these things shall be added unto you." meaning the material necessities, proving conclusively that Spirit or God is the only source of supply, and now it remains for us to go and do likewise if we wish to come into our true inheritance.

It is not always the man who has the most money who gives most liberally, but he who possesses the spirit of love for humanity and, seeking his own in another's good, trusts his own well-being to God, "in whom we live, and move, and have our being."

Another practical requisite is moral courage, not boastfulness, egotism, or a superior sense of our own importance. Moral courage is shown in humility, meekness, patience, and love. When we can meet the shafts of malice and hate with an unruffled demeanor and neutralize their effects with love, when we can speak the truth unffinchingly and live it, no matter what the seeming obstacle may be, it cannot stand against us, because of the resistless influence of an honest, upright, pure, truthful character.

He who lives up to his highest understanding of Christian Science need not fear for the future. He is fully capable of coping successfully with any problem coming his way, because he represents the truth that is mighty and must prevail.

The writer has had many beautiful demonstrations in many ways, physically, spiritually, and financially; providing when a scarcity seemed imminent. The condition of the one Mind, the one Source of supply, is always normal, and by holding this in thought we can bring out the harmony of being.

May our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, reap the reward of her unselfed love and sacrifice for the human race.
