When I took up the study of Christian Science nearly three years ago, I was suffering from lung trouble of eight years' standing. I had tried many remedies, but all had failed to give permanent relief.
A Scientist in our town loaned my sister some Sentinels and Journals which the first we had ever heard of Christian Science. I immediately declared that it was only a fraud, and told my sister that I would have to see a proof of healing before I could believe in it, but I could not wait, for I thought that if there really was any good in it, I wanted it.
One evening after I came home from work, having considerable pain, I took up Science and Health, which had also been loaned us, and began to read what seemd like Greek to me, but after reading half an hour all pain ceased and I was entirely free.
I laid the book aside and thought no more about it until the next day when my suffering returned. I then took up the book again, and after reading a short time I was relieved from all suffering. Then I realized that it was the truth contained in this most wonderful book that was making me free, and with the help of a practitioner the trouble was entirely overcome in a short time, for which I am truly grateful. I am, however, more grateful that this blessed truth is helping me to overcome hatred, envy, jealousy, malice, and revenge, and is enabling me to love my neighbor as myself. I realize that this truth is worth striving for; it certainly is the pearl of great price.
