Before coming into an understanding of Christian Science, I was continually battling with the thought that God could be good and yet send evil upon man, for all around me I saw good Christian people suffering from sickness and sorrow, and I tried to reconcile this with God's goodness. But I questioned, "Why does He afflict those who try to live up to their highest understanding?"

I was often advised to stop troubling myself about why God did these things, and trust Him. I did try, but that peace which is promised was not mine until I found it through Christian Science.

Now I know that my trouble was all in self, for, like the elder brother in the parable of the Prodigal Son, I looked to materiality for recognition of my good deeds and was disappointed every time.

I now rejoice daily in the knowledge that God is good, and I am growing in the understanding of Him whom to know aright is life eternal.

While I am deeply grateful for the physical healing which I have received, I thank God for the help Christian Science has been to me in training my children. I have had many difficulties in the way, but it has helped me out of them all, and I know that the light will grow brighter unto the perfect day.—E. M. Hughes, Waltham, Mass.
