Dear Reader,
As you know, the Sentinel will be changing quite a bit in the new year—both in print and online. Details will be spelled out in upcoming issues. But even without knowing the specifics, there’s every reason to be happy and expectant about what lies ahead. Why? Because the redesigned Sentinel will be even better suited to fulfill its timeless mission in this age, lifting readers to view the world from the watchful, spiritual perspective exemplified in Christ Jesus’ practical, healing Christianity.

Among Jesus’ final words to his disciples in the Gospel of Mark are “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (16:15). Mary Baker Eddy took up this call and followed it so fully, relaying her discovery of the Science of Christ, Truth, through healing and through every publishing means available to her. But she clearly knew that more would be needed. She wrote: “It will never do to be behind the times in things most essential, which proceed from the standard of right that regulates human destiny. . . .
“Metaphysical healing, or Christian Science, is a demand of the times” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 232).
For more than 120 years, the Sentinel has offered countless “seekers for Truth . . . a cup of cold water in Christ’s name” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 570). Throughout that time, there have been numerous changes in the magazine’s size, layout, composition, and distribution—including the introduction of a web version in 2012—always with the intent to more effectively share the God-sent news of divine Science with present and prospective readers. But today’s Sentinel readers have a greater need than ever for prompt publication of timely spiritual inspiration and healing proofs.
Internet technology and mobile devices provide the means to literally reach around the world. So it’s clear that the time has come to use the web to share Sentinel content more widely. Also, while there will be no less of a commitment to the print magazine, we will soon have the opportunity for greater variety and immediacy in delivering this content to readers.
We hope you will welcome with us this next step in publishing—and its potential for reaching more hungry hearts more swiftly with what awakens, satisfies, and heals.
