Healing of ear inflammation

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself” (Luke 10:27). These are the two great commandments I came to know when I joined this beautiful path of Christian Science.

However, while “Love . . . thy neighbor as thyself” was easy to say, it initially seemed too difficult to follow. Previously, whenever anyone had a difference with or harsh words for me, I was not able to forgive that person or forget the incident. But after finding Christian Science, I learned to forgive, and I understood that when we forgive our neighbor and start loving them, only then are we being Godlike.

I have experienced physical healing many times through striving to be Godlike, being forgiving, and following the truths taught in Christian Science.

With a grateful and humble heart, I am going to share a healing that took place in 2018. Sometime that year, both of my ears got inflamed and blocked, and there was a feeling of heaviness in them. I prayed, and pondered the spiritual definition of ears in the Christian Science textbook: “Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 585). I understood from this truth that ears represent an indestructible faculty of the spiritual senses that enables us to listen to God.

I asked myself whether I was doing this spiritual listening. When I examined my thought, I saw that I was not. Whenever I talked to any colleague at work, he or she would criticize one of the higher officials of our department for starting so many projects at one time. I would also knowingly or unknowingly indulge in this criticism. I immediately decided not to listen to or indulge in criticism of any person, and instead to listen for that which is good and of God—in other words, for what He is telling me about His creation. I also prayed to know that God is our employer, and that the government of every institution or body belongs to God alone. God is unerring, infinite divine Mind, and Mind’s government is always harmonious. Therefore, harmony is real and discord is unreal.

The next evening, after I had taken this step of self-correction, the inflammation was healed completely. I am thankful to God for this beautiful healing. I am also grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her book Science and Health, which, along with the Bible, is the perfect guide in each step of our life.
