Healed of infertility

In February 2013, my regular obstetrician diagnosed premature menopause as well as a very serious illness that affected ovarian functions. I was only 23 years old. He told me that under such conditions, I would never be able to have children because this illness was considered incurable. As far as he was concerned, I was barren. That August, he confirmed the diagnosis after performing further tests.

I decided to pray because only God could bring a solution to these problems. While the doctor was telling me there was no hope, I knew that in God there is always hope. God had already done a lot for me, my family, and my friends. God is always strong. He does not change. I knew He was going to meet my need and heal me.

Christian Science teaches that God meets every human need. In the Bible, in the first chapter of Genesis, we read: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them …. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (verses 27, 28, 31). I understood that I was the perfect image and likeness of God. Therefore, I had all the needed capabilities that God had given me.

I also held on to the 23rd Psalm. It says: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.… Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life” (verses 1, 6). I claimed this for myself, knowing that I was complete and that I was capable of bearing a child. These truths gave me confidence and peace. I felt that God, divine Love, was supporting me, and I was not afraid anymore. Also, a Christian Science practitioner had started to help me prayerfully after I heard that the diagnosis was confirmed.

Two weeks later, I went back to see the same obstetrician, who confirmed that I was pregnant. He couldn’t understand how I could procreate without functioning ovaries.

I carried the baby to term, despite the great uncertainty of the obstetrician and other doctors. I didn’t even experience some of the problems often attached to pregnancies. It was really harmonious. It was going so well that the obstetrician couldn’t believe it. This was all thanks to God’s love.

My daughter is now two and a half years old, and since she was born, I have had a second child, a boy, who is now six months old. It is thanks to God and to the Christian Science practitioner’s help that I was able to give birth very naturally. I really held to the truth Christian Science teaches.

God’s love is infinite and operates all the time. It is important not to give up and to keep the faith. God can do everything for us.

The doctors wanted me to be part of a program so that they could try to understand how I was able to bear a child without any problem. But I refused. They could not understand that I’d been healed only through prayer. I didn’t take any medicine. I really turned to God at every moment.

One passage that helped me in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is on page 63, where Mary Baker Eddy talks about the spiritual origin of man: “In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence.” This is what really helped me keep hope. My child’s origin is not material, but spiritual.
