'A spiritual foundation of Christ healing'

On June 2, the worldwide membership of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, will join together online for the Church’s Annual Meeting (visit christianscience.com/annualmeeting).

The Extension of The Mother Church in Boston was completed in 1906, and, at the time of its dedication, Mary Baker Eddy sent a message that begins: “The divine might of Truth demands well-doing in order to demonstrate truth, and this not alone in accord with human desire but with spiritual power” (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 3). The spiritual power, the divine might of Truth, that Mary Baker Eddy is talking about is what Church members celebrate individually each day of the year.

The fact of perfect God, and man expressing God’s perfection, is your foundation.

Jesus turned time and again to this power of God, who is Love and Truth, to help people—to restore them, heal them, and cleanse them from sin. He introduced to them the foundation of all existence, the kingdom of God, which includes the concept of perfect God—divine Spirit—and perfect man—Spirit’s reflection. Commenting on this, Sentinel founder, Mary Baker Eddy, said, “Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 136). For 2,000 years, nothing about this spiritual foundation has changed a single bit. It’s a spiritual rock and that is why it never erodes.

The fact of perfect God, and man expressing God’s perfection, is your foundation. This fact is always a rock on which to stand confidently when you’re praying, no matter the circumstances. “The foundation of God standeth sure,” says the Bible (II Timothy 2:19).

Human consciousness, when planted on the rock of Truth, reflects God’s potency and authority. No matter what is going on around you, no matter what people’s opinions may be, your outlook and attitude are strengthened by the solidity of God’s authority. Moses certainly felt this strength and described God this way: “He is the Rock, his work is perfect” (Deuteronomy 32:4). It’s a joy to be open to let God reveal for you a beautiful, comforting truth about yourself or someone you love, and then show your gratitude by allowing it to become settled within. What occurs when the Word of Truth remains your permanent foundation of thought? Lies and mistaken beliefs about God and God’s creation are pulverized. 

With such spiritual power comes authority over fear, and the result is healing. When thought is transformed by the power of God, everything you experience changes. “He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved,” says the Bible (Psalms 62:2).
