Healed of breathing problem

Last spring was a very busy time for me. Two teenage foster daughters, my own twenty-something daughter, and my husband and I were all quarantined together. When public places started to reopen early in May, my daughters became active, returning to activities and visiting with friends. They were thoughtful and law-abiding, but still active.

Then sometime later that month, a few in our household developed slight cold symptoms, and I began to have difficulty and pain breathing when I walked. I worried that I had the coronavirus.

In deep prayer while I was uncomfortable one night, these words from a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal: Hymns 430–603 came to me: “It is well with my soul” (Horatio G. Spafford, adapted, No. 596 ). The temptation to wonder about my health gently gave way to a profound spiritual awakening to the fact that as the creation of our completely good Father-Mother God, I am completely good—holy and perfect. All is well with my being—with all that I am.

Something passed through me like a breath of pure air. The tightness in my chest disappeared, and I felt not just healed but buoyant. That spiritual animus was so perfect—a moment of holiness that I will never forget. None of the symptoms returned, and any fear that my family members’ responsible activities could harm me or them vanished. Others in our household who had felt similarly unwell quickly recovered to normalcy at about the same time. And there’s been no recurrence of symptoms for any of them, either.

I’m so very grateful to be a student of Christian Science.
