God’s protecting care
I would like to express my gratitude for an instance of divine protection that happened several decades ago. It was in the winter on a dark Wednesday night. I was working overtime. So I met my wife, June, for dinner and then we began driving to a testimony meeting at a local Church of Christ, Scientist, in separate cars. My wife was new to Christian Science at the time.
As I was getting into my car, I reached to turn on the radio, and an angel message from God came to me to pray instead. After a brief pause, I continued reaching for the radio—thinking that we were going to church anyway, so it wasn’t necessary to pray right then. Then a much stronger message came to me to pray. So I left the radio off and prayed with spiritual truths about God and man as I had been taught in Christian Science Primary class instruction.
While I don’t recall precisely how I prayed, my daily prayers always keep me focused on the omnipresence of Father-Mother God, good, and negate any seeming influence that would deny the omnipotence of God. I love that the Bible gives so many examples of Christ Jesus healing the sick and sinning, giving God the credit and glory. And Mary Baker Eddy’s book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the textbook of Christian Science, helps me better understand how Jesus performed these healing works. I remember taking that angel message to pray as a wake-up call to reaffirm God’s allness and ever-presence.
