Divine Love dissolves skin irritation

A few months back, I noticed some redness on my nose. Within two days this irritation, including little red spots, covered my whole body. It was difficult to avoid scratching. I was praying to know that as the offspring of God, Spirit, I am purely spiritual, and that these physical symptoms were no part of me.

Prayer kept me uplifted, so I was not too fearful. But people around me started pointing out the redness on my face, and I continued to pray.

There was a lot of dust in my home because of construction work that had been going on for a few days, and the thought of allergy kept coming to me. Also, I was feeling irritated because the workers were using the bathrooms in my home and were leaving them very unclean. But I prayed to know that I was sensitive to nothing but good.

Even though at night the itching would increase a lot, I tried not to scratch my skin.

One night shortly after, as I was praying, this line from the Christian Science textbook opened my eyes: “Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 454 ).

I told myself how foolish I was. I was made to reflect divine Love, not to get irritated. I am a reflection, not a reaction. From that day onward, expressing love toward everyone—even toward the workers, who I realized were constructing our home with love and dedication—became natural to me. Within a day the body rash disappeared and the nose rash started fading. In no time, new skin appeared on my nose.

This healing inspired me to know that my true selfhood is sensitive only to God and to what He is telling us about our spiritual nature and genuine goodness.

I am grateful to God for this healing and for God’s love, which is so powerful and purifying, which heals every illusion of the material senses. My gratitude would be incomplete without also thanking my Christian Science teacher who gave me Primary class instruction in Christian Science, which helps me every day to grow spiritually. Christian Science is so wonderful!
