How long does it take to change your mind?

If you were convinced that the sun revolved around the earth, as it certainly appears to do, and then read in a few reputable astronomy books that the opposite was true, how long would it be before you accepted that the earth indeed circled the sun?

Would you say, “With this new fact, I will now consider it to be true in a few days, or maybe a week or so”? Would it matter to you just how long you had been mistaken? If it had been years, would it then take you years to accept what’s true?

Of course not. Once an error in thought is replaced with what’s true, the effect is immediate; no time needs to pass before its verity is established. You are instantly free from the effects or limitations of that misconception.
