Love even that neighbor?

Loving our neighbor may seem easy when the relationship is going smoothly. But what about when the road gets rough, and we find ourselves at odds with our neighbor? Those are the times we need to turn wholeheartedly to our Father-Mother, God, the true source of our being, and our neighbor’s.

The first chapter of Genesis tells us that man was made in the image and likeness of God, and that God saw that His entire creation was “very good” (verse 31). In Christian Science we learn that man is the reflection of God and expresses all of God’s qualities. Therefore, in reality, man’s true nature is perfect, complete, full of love and goodness.

Discussing man as the offspring of divine Spirit, Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being” (p. 63).
