Forever in God’s love

“I’m in your corner” is a phrase I often tell my children, both adult and younger ones, whenever they face tough decisions. I simply want them to know that they are not alone. I may not be with them personally at the time I’m saying this, but what I mean by it is that I support their decisions. I’m assuring them of my unconditional love for them. They tell me they appreciate that.

As important, comforting, and reassuring as such a connection is to both my children and me, I have found it is even more important for us to realize that God is always in our corner—or, more accurately, that we are always in His corner; in other words, that we are always in the infinitude of God’s presence, and that we are always at one with Him. The Bible declares, “In him we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). We can never be outside the embrace of God, the infinite Spirit, or without His care and guidance.

Moses proved this to be true. One day, while in his father-in-law’s employ, he came upon a burning bush. It wasn’t being consumed, and this puzzled him. So he examined the situation more closely, and, as the Bible tells us, he actually heard the voice of God speaking to him by name (see Exodus 3). During his communication with God, he was called to a mission to lead the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt, a mission that was clear, purposeful, and very challenging.
