Reject alarming prophecies

A recent report from the United Nation’s International Labour Organization predicts massive unemployment in the event of a breakdown of the Eurozone. It indicated that certain countries could see some 40 percent of the young unemployed. Such predictions give pause for prayer and loving concern. 

None of us would wish these conditions on ourselves, our neighbors, or those we love, and we don’t have to accept these predictions as inevitable, even though media reports may make them seem as though they are. 

Thinking about this situation, I was reminded of the predicament in which three Hebrew men found themselves. Their king had set up a golden image in the plain of Dura that everyone was expected to worship when a fanfare sounded (see Daniel, chapter 3.) The Hebrew men, however, wanted to worship only the one God, and so they refused to worship the image.
