Roman holiday

Last April, during a visit to Rome, I came across this simple yet extraordinary scene. What struck me as I reached for my camera was its ancient and charming setting, and its totally natural strength of design. The splash of unfinished color and the cracks of aging texture might have been distracting but for the springtime appearance of wisteria. It was as though the visual elements had been brought together by the radiance of Love, and those of us passing by saw only the beauty. Radiance was added to radiance, and it occurred to me that this is something we can all bring to each day. As Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “Beauty is a thing of life, which dwells forever in the eternal Mind and reflects the charms of His goodness in expression, form, outline, and color” (Science and Health, p. 247).
