How does prayer work?

Kathleen Chicoine was the guest on a Sentinel audio chat on “How does prayer work?” From the Charlotte, North Carolina area, Kathy has been in the full-time practice of Christian Science for more than a decade. This chat has been edited for publication.

Host: This question is from Manchester in the United Kingdom: I’ve applied for British citizenship for more than ten years, and still have no avail. I haven’t seen my father face to face for eighteen years. How would an understanding of God resolve this situation?

Kathy: Whenever I pray, I start with God, I don’t start with the problem. Here, I would say the thought is that there’s a world with borders—that we have this country and that country and very often we get into difficulties with passports and visas and citizenship and travel and all kinds of things. But when I turn to God, I think, “You know, what, Father? This earth and everyone in it is a world without borders.”
