The secret place of the most high

When I was a child, one of my favorite places to be was in the woods near where I lived in a small country town in New England. Back up behind my house, up the side of a hill, was a clearing where I would look out at the Berkshire Hills all around me. I thought this had to be the most beautiful place on earth! It was very quiet and serene there, away from road traffic and any other noise, except perhaps the sound of the wind blowing or birds singing. This “secret place” of mine was a very comforting spot to be, where I felt secure, soaking in the panoramic view and enjoying the beauty of nature.

Since being led to Christian Science as an adult, and now being in the public healing practice, I have found another “secret place,” where I feel very secure and at peace. Psalm 91 explains: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” This “secret place” took on a higher meaning and became crystal clear to me when I came upon these statements by Mary Baker Eddy, in her book Science and Health: “The Scriptures imply that God is All-in-all. . . .

“God is individual, incorporeal. He is divine Principle, Love, the universal cause, the only creator, and there is no other self-existence. He is all-inclusive, and is reflected by all that is real and eternal and by nothing else” (p. 331).
