HEALING OF APPENDICITIS

First published in Le Heraut de la Science Chretienne, the French edition of The Herald of Christian Science

In 2005, one day at school, I felt a very sharp pain in my stomach, and I had to leave the classroom. The school staff was concerned and recommended that I go see a doctor, which I did. After having examined me at the hospital in Kinshasa, where I went with my mother, the doctor diagnosed appendicitis requiring surgery. He had a very busy schedule, but told us he would be able to perform this procedure within three weeks at the very latest.

The doctor's diagnosis and his troubling description made me very scared, but while I waited to return to the hospital, I remembered what I was learning in the Christian Science Sunday School, and I resolved to align my thoughts with those teachings, instead of supporting the doctor's conclusions. In my family, we have already had ample evidence that prayer restores health, and therefore my parents and I turned to God when faced with this problem, confident in the effectiveness of spiritual treatment.
