IN THE NEWS A SPIRITUAL PERSPECTIVE

Floods: hope in the midst of disaster

In the last year, torrential rains have led to devastating floods in Asia, Africa, and more recently in the American Midwest.

At the time of this writing, news reports say that water is still rising in eastern Arkansas, and flood damage in several Midwestern states has included loss of life, damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure. Levees in Missouri have been breached, and rivers have overflowed their banks after a major storm dropped at least 12 inches of rain on the area. While there was some flooding near major rivers such as the Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio, the areas around smaller rivers across the country's midsection were the most severely affected.

Living in Illinois myself, I've seen the effects of flooding up close and personal. But I've also seen proof that prayer is an effective protection even when the flood is pouring into your home.
