SPOTLIGHT ON SPIRITUALITY

What a success! Congratulations on the Teen Herald 2000. It inspired me. I particularly enjoyed reading the sections “Our Voice” and “Spotlight on Spirituality” because they were written by young people. Keep up the good work!

I'm really enjoying your teen issue 2000. It has given me some great ideas. My favorite articles were the ones where people of different faiths talk. It was cool and surprising to see how similar many people's thoughts are to my own. I hope you will have some other teen issues. They're really great!

We are a group of Christian Scientists between 16 and 17 years of age from Geneva. We were impressed by the great number of articles in the teen issue from all corners of the world, and particularly by the opening up to other forms of thought that you introduced by giving the floor to a girl of Jewish origin, a Methodist, a Muslim, and a Christian Scientist. Seeing that each one of them was, ultimately, turning to the same God and looking for spiritual solution — although through different approaches — was extremely satisfying, especially at a time when, in several countries of the world, there is strife over so-called religious matters.

I read the last Teen Herald and I thought it was fantastic. My parents belong to the [Christian Science] Church here in Lima. In fact, I've begun to attend the church in order to understand this perspective.

I loved the Teen Herald 2000! I really appreciated the honesty and prayerful thinking illustrated in each article. Also, hearing the voices of brothers and sisters from (literally) the whole world felt so natural and inspiring. Reading the copy from cover to cover took me several days, and resulted in a few healings!

NO AGE BRACKETS

One Wednesday evening, while leaving church, my husband fell down a flight of stairs where he lost consciousness for a few moments. When we helped him stand up, he had many deep wounds on his head; a Christian Scientist who was there immediately prayed for him, and we felt the thoughts of love and support from the other people who were present. Some members of our family accompanied us home and helped to clean and bandage his wounds. After they left, I was still in shock over what had happened. I then remembered the Herald we had received that morning, but when I saw it was the teen issue, I was disappointed. I thought, “The problems of young people, this is not what is going to help me in this situation.” Nevertheless, I started reading it. Well, I read straight through to the last line!

I was so thankful for the sincerity and courage with which these teens were meeting challenges. These young people were so convinced and convincing! The joy and sense of humor in their accounts brought them comfort. And I realized that there were no “age brackets” because the problems of young people are not so different from ours, and the answer is the same: the power of God acting in our lives.

My husband had a peaceful night. The following day several wounds had already closed. Within eight days, the healing was complete. I had learned a good lesson.
