The flower power of Love

“Friendships are the flowers in life's garden.” These words are on a plaque in my bedroom. They remind me of the unconditional love that my mother, Hyacinth, and I have for each other.

Many years ago, my Jamaican great-grandmother was healed through prayer of an enlarged heart. She learned about the healing power of God's love.

Her three children went to a Christian Science Sunday School in Kingston, Jamaica. One of those children is my grandmother, Norma Hyacinth, who now lives in Harlem, New York and is an active church member there.

I have gone to Sunday School all of my life, and I have learned that I reflect all the spiritual qualities of God. The quality that I respect most is love. The Bible says: “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (I John 4:7, 8 ). God's love is a powerful quality because it brings healing to any situation.

One day I had an upset stomach. My mom talked to me about how I was a spiritual reflection, of God, and how God loved me very much. I could only be in good health. I also prayed and knew that I was God's perfect, loving child.

I was completely healed and able to eat again. This healing showed me that we all blossom with the power of Love.
